Hours-of-Service should be audited regularly to ensure that all entries are true and correct, and that drivers are complying with the hours of service requirements. Carriers can be assessed severe monetary penalties for violations such as drivers exceeding the hours of service limitations and log falsification. Aggressive monitoring of ELD data will enable scrutiny of hours-of-service compliance.
ELD prompts for all required log entries in the proper format and provides location, time and duty status of driver. Auditing of time-dated and position locating documents should be compared to ELD position reporting.
ELD reported miles of movement should be assigned to a driver or an exempted activity. All unassigned miles should be reviewed and annotated by the motor carrier.
