If you transport or offer transportation services for hazardous materials, someone within your company should become thoroughly familiar with the Hazardous Materials Regulations (HMR), title 49 CFR, Parts 100-185. These regulations are quite complex, and in order to be in full compliance, you should have a copy of these regulations.
If you transport a hazardous material for which a shipping paper is required, you must also ensure that the shipping paper and emergency response information is readily available on the transport vehicle. There must be information available that describes the hazards of the material that can be used in the mitigation of an incident. This requires that each driver carry (in the cab) the Emergency Response Guidebook (ERG), available from the Pipeline Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA).
