Emergency Response

Requirements and regulations regarding emergency response are found in §172.600. Generally, carriers may not transport a hazardous material unless:

  1. Emergency response information is immediately available for use at all times the hazardous material is present (e.g., carrying the Emergency Response Guidebook).
  2. Emergency response information and telephone number (see §172.604) is immediately available.

There is only one exception: These requirements do not apply to hazardous materials that are exempt from shipping paper requirements, nor do they apply to a properly classified ORM-D material.

You should be familiar with all requirements found in FMSCR §172.600, §172.602, §172.604, and §172.606.
