Requirements and regulations regarding emergency response are found in §172.600. Generally, carriers may not transport a hazardous material unless:
- Emergency response information is immediately available for use at all times the hazardous material is present (e.g., carrying the Emergency Response Guidebook).
- Emergency response information and telephone number (see §172.604) is immediately available.
There is only one exception: These requirements do not apply to hazardous materials that are exempt from shipping paper requirements, nor do they apply to a properly classified ORM-D material.
You should be familiar with all requirements found in FMSCR §172.600, §172.602, §172.604, and §172.606.
