It is suggested that a written, progressive disciplinary policy be developed, outlining action to be taken with respect to any drivers involved in preventable accidents, citations, company policy infractions, or any other violations. It is also recommended to either have a separate policy concerning log violations, or to integrate log violations into the general disciplinary policy.
The policy should be progressive in nature, providing for written warnings, followed by training, if necessary, suspension and, ultimately, termination for repeat violators. It is important that such policies be strictly enforced in their written form.
