Persons who provide shipping papers to carriers must retain copies of those shipping papers for a period of two years. Carriers are required to keep the shipping paper for a period of one year after the date that the shipping paper is provided to the carrier. For hazardous waste shipments, the shipping paper must be retained for three years by both the person who provides the shipping paper and the carrier.
